Researchers have compared 43 of the UKs major boroughs and cities to find the safest the place to live. The survey revealed that the celebrity rich boroughs of Chelsea and Kensington are the safest places in England and Wales with regards to risks of burglary, flooding and criminal damage. Chelsea property is also among the more exclusive and expensive property in the country. On the other end of the spectrum, the survey, done by Virgin Money, revealed that Doncaster is the least safe of the 43 towns to live in.
Grant Bather from Virgin Money, said, It really is a case of safe as houses in Kensington and Chelsea as well as Poole and Dudley. Poole and Dudley were runners up to Chelsea and Kensington for the place with the safest properties to live in. Bather emphasised that the criteria were used to provide a guide of how safe property is rather than how safe the people in the areas are. Nottingham and Manchester were revealed to have the highest incidence of burglaries, with Poole showing the least number of house burglaries.
Chelsea property has the lowest incidence of criminal damage and flood risk, according to the survey. Other boroughs in West London that show up as safe places to live are Wandsworth (in fifth place) and the city of Westminster (in seventh place). The Virgin Money survey used a point system, which also took into account police presence and Neighbourhood Watch schemes, as well as population numbers.
Bather was quick to point out that people shouldnt worry if they live in the higher risk areas.
