Job seekers scouring job search engines for the latest administrative opportunities may be expected to work late as 'graveyard shifts' increase in popularity.
Increasing numbers of secretaries, especially in the legal profession, are starting to take late shifts that fit in better with their lifestyle and offer significant pay benefits.
Legal firm Norton Rose is just one company that allows secretaries to work an 'alternative' work schedule of 5.30 pm until midnight, Monday to Friday.
"Because of the pay and perks that leading law firms offer, we've seen an increase in opportunities for night secretaries, WP operators and supervisors," Matt Franklin of Lawson Clark, the legal recruitment specialist, told the Times.
"From special shift allowances to taxis home, the incentives can be attractive - often requiring fewer hours for more money."
Some secretaries say they find the peace and lack of interruptions as few other workers are around help them to stay focused - but the graveyard shift is best suited to those who are self-sufficient, and perhaps a little unconventional.
