A new free e-learning package has been launched to help employers ensure working parents are happy in their jobs and receiving all the rights to which they are entitled. The package, created by the employment relations body Acas, offers a step by step guide to various issues relating to pay and maternity rights, paternity rights and adoption leave, and the right to request flexible working hours.
Employers can use it to devise procedures for their own organisation and revisit the website at any time for practical advice and information on current issues, as and when they occur.
"The course is ideal for those employers who have not had to deal with a working parents' issue before," said Gill McCarthy, Acas director for Yorkshire and Humber. "If you have taken the time to recruit the best person for the job it makes good business sense to ensure they keep on working for you even if their circumstances change."
According to Acas, the number of workers who are also parents is high, with women making up almost half of the working population.
