Graduate jobseekers may be set for a successful 2005 following reports of an expected increase in the number of available graduate job placements.
Figures released by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) suggest that, in addition to an increase in the number of vacancies aimed at graduates, the average starting salary is also due for a rise.
The organisation predicts that the average annual wage will increase by some five per cent to sit at £22,000 this year.
Despite these positive developments many employers are reporting a fall in the number of students applying for jobs, with many graduates opting for a year out or to continue in their studies.
"There is a worrying underlying trend that whilst we are seeing impressive growth in the market place, some employers are not getting enough high quality applicants to fill the vacancies," AGR chief executive Carl Gillead told the Guardian.
"The findings should bring a smile to the faces of final-year students and recent graduates looking to enter graduate-level employment this summer," he nonetheless added.
