Labour's job creation claims have been questioned by new figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
According to the Telegraph, the ONS attributed the increase in the employment rate over the last four years to population growth.
"While employment levels have generally been increasing over the past four years, the rate of increase has been no more than in line with population growth," the ONS stated.
However, a spokesman for the Department for Work and Pensions insisted the Government's policies were working and that the New Deal had resulted in over one million people returning to work.
The most recent employment figures indicate that around 88,000 jobs were created in the year to last September, with many of these in education, health and public administration.
