Age Positive Week, a government initiative that aims to raise awareness of age discrimination and celebrate the benefits of age diversity, is taking place this week.
Speaking at the launch of the week, the minister for pensions Malcolm Wicks explained that the campaign was a good way to raise awareness amongst employers of the benefits of older workers.
He continued: "Everyone needs to start combating age discrimination now and open the workplace up to the variety of talent and experience different ages bring to the job."
A number of events will take place throughout the week, including the Age Positive Awards 2004, which acknowledged the efforts of firms that have successfully promoted age diversity.
A special reception will also be held at Number 11 Downing Street for the Age Positive Employer Champions.
In December 2006, age discrimination will be prohibited in the UK under the terms of Article 13 of the EU employment directive. |
