Union Snacks has won a series of grants enabling it to realise expansion plans for its County Durham factory.
The pretzel manufacturer has been awarded funding totalling almost £300,000 enabling it to extend its Tanfield Lea plant and create a number of new jobs
Regional development agency One NorthEast awarded the business £245,000 and Derwentside District and Durham County Council contributed an additional £60,000.
Calum Ryder, managing director, told The Journal: "Everyone at Union Snack is very excited about our expansion plans and thanks to One NorthEast we are able to commence work on our factory extension immediately."
The company, the UK's only pretzel maker, sells around 68 tonnes of pretzels a week to airlines and supermarkets, and currently employs 80 members of staff.
Last year sales reached £5.4 million, up from £4.2 million in 2002.
Alan Clarke, chief executive of One NorthEast, added: "Union Snack is a successful, rapidly expanding business.
"The size of the firm's investment in its commitment to the area is welcome news for the local area and County Durham as a whole." |
