Brazilian-born Portugal star Deco has admitted that he is likely to join Chelsea after Euro 2004.
The skilful midfielder has long been expected to join former manager Jose Mourinho and Porto full-back Paulo Ferreira at Stamford Bridge, and it now appears a deal will go through next month.
Deco is currently with the Portuguese national side as they try and progress to the quarter-finals, and admitted that his main priority at the moment was to make sure that the host nation did not crash out at the first stage.
He played during last night's vital 2-0 win over Russia, firing in the shot that led to Maniche's opening goal, and took time out afterwards to give an indication of his future plans.
“The things between the FC Porto and Chelsea are practically all decided, but I will only think about this after the European Championship," the 26-year-old said.
"I still have to take the medical examinations and sign a contract.
"My will, as I have already said previously, is to continue my career in a club that gives conditions to me that FC Porto gave me all these years to fulfil my objectives. Perhaps Chelsea is one of these clubs."
Deco joined Porto from SC Salgueiros in 1998/99, and was a key part of their shock Champions League win last season, and UEFA Cup success the year before. |
