Christian Ziege has joined Borussia Monchengladbach after being released by Tottenham.
The German is currently in Portugal after being named as a late call-up for the national squad at Euro 2004, but has taken time out to complete a deal to return to the Bundesliga.
The 32-year-old left-back has struggled with numerous injuries at White Hart Lane this season, and was allowed to leave alongside fellow senior pros Darren Anderton and Gustavo Poyet at the end of the season.
But Ziege was not short of offers to resume his playing career, and turned down more lucrative offers in order to join Borussia.
"After a long injury break, the most important thing for me is to play football," Ziege told the German club's website.
"I've had offers from Bundesliga and foreign sides as well as clubs who would have been able to pay more money than Borussia.
"But I don't want to gamble. It's not good to pick a side only because they pay more money than everyone else. Other things are on the top of the priority list."
Ziege has also played for Middlesbrough and Liverpool in the Premiership, and already has 72 international caps. |
